The captain gave us a time today for the pilot ?5pm. Okay, it's a little later in the day than we'd hope for, but it's good to know we actually have a time set. The actual time was closer to 6pm. In fact, by about 5:45 we had decided that we'd go early for dinner so we could be on the bridge when we came alongside. This was a good plan as we made our final approach to the pier just before 8pm. I took a few shots of the sunset after dinner, including this one of a channel marker we could see last night from the anchorage. It's just after 9pm and the captain is down dealing with customs and immigration. So far in China we only had to make an appearance in the first port of Huangpu. Even here in China they are inconsistent with people coming and going. In Huangpu and Shanghai you just got off the ship and went on your way. In Dalian there was a guard at the bottom of the gangplank who recorded everyone coming on and off the ship. So far the best ports to get in and out of were in Camden, New Jersey and in Hamburg, Germany. There was security, which I don't object to, however they seem to have their act together. Anyway, we'll see in the morning how long we'll be here and see what plans we'll make.
